Sale ending soon!

I remember a few years back being told - never sell on price - if you keep selling at a discount to make a sale you might just as well reduce your price in the first place!

There are times however when you need to shift stock, either because new & improved stock is coming in and you need to clear the shelves, or because it is out of season and you need to generate a bargain like atmosphere for people to buy things that it really is the wrong season to but it normally!

We see big high street names doing both, so why shouldn't it work for small businesses too!

October sees the start of a new heating season, and so September is a month when, we as a company, want to do both of the above! We have some exciting new product enhancements coming through and because it is still mild people are not yet thinking of buying heating products!

www.multiheat-energysystems.co.uk has a sale that ends at midnight on 30th September - we have some excellent products that need to be shifted to make way for better products. Take advantage of our sale by using sale25 at check out to get 25% off all of our panels - we have only a few remaining but they all need to go!

Multiheat specialise in infrared panel heaters - an affordable, energy efficient solution to your heating requirements!

Working on a Saturday - whatever next?

Actually, I work most days - 7 days a week, 365 days a year (366 in a leap year) but generally not in the office!

As you may know, we breed llamas & pygmy goats, we keep chickens, dogs and a cat and they all need looking after every day! The llama business is slow at the moment, waiting until next year for cria to arrive and then to determine who to sell, but in the meantime they need tending, the fields need maintaining as do the fences and hedgerows.

Today though is VAT day - the return is due at the end of the month and so I have a few hours work to catch up with my paperwork - I do try and keep office work to Monday to Friday, but being quite busy I have saved this task up for the weekend.

Here goes!

Principle of conventional heating systems!

Conventional heaters operate on the principle of convection. They give off their heat to the cold air near the floor. As a consequence this warm air rises, and fills the room from the top down and as it cools drops back to down to the floor.

The structure of the room doesn't warm up and the movement of air stirs up dust and bacteria and can provide a warm head and cold feet!

These systems can be expensive to purchase and to install. They often need an elaborate system of pipes to transfer the heat from the boiler to the radiators. The system will need somewhere to house the boiler and of course in some instances room is needed for the fuel.

Due to the size valuable living space is used up!

All in all quite an inefficient set-up!

Infrared heating on the other hand distributes its heat much more uniformly, heats the structure of the room, and creates a much more cosy and comfortable feeling of heat!

I cooked dinner last night!

If I say so myself it was quite good.

Mackerel to start - just grilled, nothing fancy!

Munchkin squash stuffed with minced lamb (home grown lamb, with home grown onions & garlic, with home made tomato purée) - the squash was grown in the garden too!

And the best bit was the brownie in a mug - great recipe, and very easy to make too!

My mum was impressed!

Mirror infrared heating panels!

This 400w panel is just 60cm square and in the above picture sits above the bathroom sink!

It will heat a small room of around 6 square metres!

The bit I like about it is the fact that it doesn't steam up when on!

Also useful in hallways, downstairs toilets, etc...

In business, to me, a gmail account means one thing!

Spam!

OK, not just Gmail, Hotmail, BTInternet and many other service providers email addresses!

If you are trying to sell me something, SEO services as an example, then by giving me a gmail address means you are hiding, you are not being professional, and your smooth talk about trusting you & being my friend in business just doesn't cut it!

It doesn't cost a lot to get a domain name and set up a few email addresses - just do it, next time I might just respond to your contact, I might not, but I might! That's a better chance than just being sent to the trash bin!

You could tell the nice weather is back!

Everybody must be back out side doing stuff!

We certainly were - a pleasant but busy weekend working on the land!

A trip to the farmers market on Saturday morning, cleaned the chickens out Saturday afternoon, a trip out to RHS Rosemoor on Sunday morning and cleaning up llama poo on Sunday afternoon.

Roast lamb on Sunday evening and getting the blackberry jelly cooked and in the strainer afterwards.

Today the task will be to turn that into blackberry jelly!

What did you get up to over the weekend?

Hot air rises - the ceiling is the warmest spot in the room!

That means the coolest place is near the floor!

Don't we normally sit near the floor?

With convector heating systems we rely on the movement of warm air to keep our rooms warm. Cool air passes by the radiator on the wall, is heated up and rises to the ceiling, displacing the cooler air that drops down the room and again passes by the radiator, is warmed up and rises again.

Depending on who you talk to, temperature differences can be anywhere from 3 degrees centigrade up to a significant 7 degrees centigrade!

Wouldn't it be great if you could sit nearer the ceiling?

With infrared heating there is a minimum movement of air as the air is heated up only after the rest of the room has been heated up (walls, floor, objects etc...) and so the temperature difference can be as low as 1 degree centigrade!

That fact alone makes  infrared heating panels so much more efficient!

Air is heated up by infrared but not in the way you know it!

The big claim of all infrared heating panel sellers is that the air is not heated up as it is in convection heating systems, because it heats up the bodies and surfaces in the room so you feel the benefit much more quickly than you do with traditional forms of heating!

But, why then do you control the panels with a thermostatic controller, because the thermostat measure the air temperature - the ambient temperature - in the room, so the air must get heated up - right?

Right, but it gets heated up as a bi-product of the system, not as the source of feeling warmth in the room.

Convector heating systems heat the cool air, the warm air rises in the room, as it cools it drops back down to be reheated and so on, the circulation of warm air around the room gives us the feeling that the room is warm, which is all nice and cosy!

Infrared heats the walls, the floor and the objects in the room, which in turn radiate warmth back into the room and therefore the air is heated and ultimately everything in the room is at the same temperature, you, the objects, the floor, the wall, etc... - infrared heating panels are therefore very efficient in that it is not just the air that is heated!

Try opening a door in a nice warm room - in the convector heating scenario the air rushes out, being replaced by cool air and the system goes back into overdrive to heat the air up again so that you feel warm again. The infrared heating system still loses the air but the infrared is still keeping you warm, still keeping the walls, floor etc... warm, and the amount of energy used to reheat the air is less, as the infrastructure of the room retains its heat far better than the disappearing air.

I hope that made sense, if not, please call us on 01237 451759 and we'll try to explain it better!

A twice yearly checkup - is it worth it?

I'm talking about my visit to the dentist today!

Each year I go twice, I get given a hard time by the hygienist (who grudgingly said I wasn't doing too bad this time, but could do better) and I hear the same story from the dentist, you have a problem there but you would have to throw a lot of money at it to sort it, and it probably isn't worth it!

I paid over my money, came home with cleaner teeth & a feeling I have toothache!

I booked to go back for a repeat in 7 months time!

Wonder whether I should leave it a year?

The football season is underway & my fantasy team is bottom of the league!

To be honest I am a rugby fan, but most of my friends & family are all football supporters so I have to take an interest or be left out of the conversation.

Since moving here to North Devon my drinking buddies in the pub are more rugby orientated people and I go & watch Bideford RFC play and a couple of times a season we nip down to Exeter to watch a Premier League game, or maybe even a European game!

I also got rid of Sky - when I used to live up country my 30 foot garden was done and dusted by 11am on a Saturday, but here my 12 acres keeps me busy all weekend and I don't have the time to watch sport on TV any more. I don't miss it either as I am living my little dream of living and working in the country!

It does however mean that my fantasy football team is rubbish - half the team I have picked aren't even on the subs bench, let alone playing, so nil points for half my team. I am slowly swapping them out as the current stats start to show who is doing well, but I have a long way to catch up! Still, it is just for fun!

Right, that's enough of that, I have a business or two to run!

The goats need letting out and hay racks need topping up!

Did I tell you that we have a voucher code sale25 that will get you 25% off all infrared heating panel purchases until 30th September 2013. No, well I have now!

Garden Rooms! So many uses!

Garden Rooms can have many uses, but as long as there is an electric supply to your garden room we can heat it! Our panels have a low electrical consumption, a 600 watt heater may be all you need.
  • Home office
  • Spa and therapy studio
  • Summerhouse
  • Workshop
  • Music room
Home office.
With the use of the internet, working from home is becoming more commonplace, whether that is to reduce commuting time and inconvenience or self employment and a better work life balance, more and more people are choosing to working from home. Working from a modern garden room, close to home, with good insulation and large sunny windows can be the most wonderful place to be, but when sitting at a desk all day the body is not generating energy to make its own warmth, it is easy to feel chilly, a spring morning can be cold or an autumn day may feel damp, an infrared heating panel on the wall above the desk will provide almost instant warmth without creating the dusty and drowsy environment caused by small fan heaters. An infrared heating panel is cheap to run with a low energy consumption it can be fitted to the wall and the cable cut short to the nearest plug socket, safe from being a trip hazard and has a smart and stylish appearance.

Spa and Therapy studio.
If you are considering having a new building for a spa or running your own therapy business from home a newly built garden room will have all energy efficiency measures in place, from well insulated walls and floor to double glazing but often with no heating, this is left to the client. Infrared panels are an ideal choice for warming people, especially when sat still, as the infrared rays can be felt on the skin providing a deep down warmth and promoting good blood circulation. Panels can be positioned above the therapy couch to target warmth. We have successfully supplied infrared heating panels to hot yoga studios, yoga rooms and other therapy studios.

Summerhouse.
Our heating panels can be fitted with feet to enable the heater to stand on the floor. The heater will provide a gentle warm to the skin similar to sitting in the sun whilst you are in the summerhouse, infrared warms people and objects rather than the air itself, so you will feel warm even though the air temperature will still be low. If you use the summerhouse regularly it would be worthwhile insulating the walls to maintain warmth. Our panel is not designed to be portable, care should be taken not to touch or move the panel when hot.

Workshop.
Working in a cold workshop or shed can be very difficult in the winter. Often these buildings are not insulated so any heat created by fan or gas heaters is simply lost, our infrared panel heaters will warm you rather than the air. Infrared panel heaters provide almost instant warmth, there is no warm up period, so energy is not wasted. Fit a large heater on the ceiling above the workstation to feel the full benefit of infrared, once fitted the heater is out of harms way from accidental damage and will not be a tripping hazard.

Music room / playroom.
Heating panels fitted in the ceiling cannot be touched or tampered with by children, use a simple plug in timer to create a gentle background warmth this will also prevent the heater being left on. Background warmth can also help prevent the damage caused by damp and cold in the worst of the winter. Infrared heating panels have a lower energy consumption compared to other forms of electrical heating and are much cheaper to run.

Oh dear, I missed a day!

Yesterday I spent the afternoon with North Devon Business Alliance manning their pop-up stand at Barclays Bank in Barnstaple! A pleasant afternoon it was too, catching up with my colleagues and talking to the odd member of the public!

No, no, they weren't odd, more the occasional :-)

Anyway, whilst clearing up my desk of ToDo items before I headed out I just didn't have time to blog - amazing how quickly my readers disappeared  - still I'm back, I hope you didn't miss me!

So, a tip - if you have set a target of blogging every day, blog every day, otherwise you are forgotten....almost!

Busy day here in infrared panel heating world - busiest day of the season so far!

Get someone to answer that phone!

Are you a small business?

Do you have an answer machine to take calls when you are not available?

Do you wonder why nobody is leaving messages?

It's because people want to speak to a real person - have someone answer the phone and then the person calling has to leave a message - it's amazing how many small businesses just don't see that!

I use B My Office based in Barnstaple to answer my phone - incoming calls are set to be re-directed if I am engaged or if I do not answer the phone - and this last week they have taken at least two orders and saved at least one other enquiry going elsewhere - it works!

I called two businesses earlier this week, one phone just rang forever & the other had an answer machine - I wanted something in a hurry so I rang someone else - two businesses there that didn't get my business because they didn't have someone there to answer the phone!

It's not expensive and it sure pays for itself! Give Stacey or Jess a call on 01271 344545 - they're great people to do business with (I'm sure I've heard that somewhere before).

It's become quite autumnal!

Here in North Devon it has become quite chilly in the mornings, time to put a fleece on when doing the animal rounds! Wellies are needed most mornings, either because of overnight rain or a heavy dew has settled on the grass. Those fantastic cobwebs are shown off in all their splendour this time of year, with the dew or rain on them, they seem to be shown off to their best!

I don't like those long trailing lines that you get, always seem to get me across the face and glasses!

It's still not cold enough to have the central heating on, but the damp can start to feel worse than the cold and occasionally you need a bit of warmth to ...well .... just feel warm, a jumper doesn't always cut it and a jumper doesn't get rid of that damp feeling either.

A single far infrared heating panel could be just the job, we even sell feet for our standard panels to stand up and become a portable heater for you to move from room to room!

This 350w infrared panel heater with feet costs just £246* and uses a unit if electricity very three hours - compare that with a 2Kw fan heater that uses two units of electricity per hour - you can see you will soon get the extra cost back.

The panel without feet is just £216* - anyone who buys the basic panel and mentions this blog, I'll send them the feet FoC! If you use voucher code "TWITTER10" you'll also get 10% off the panel at checkout!

Timers and efficiency!

We all set our alarm clock to ensure that we get up at the right time every morning as we have plenty of things to do each day and some things just have to be done at the right time.

No point getting up and dropping the kids off at school at 10am, when classes start at 9am.

We all understand how timers can improve efficiency. From egg timers to tell us when the egg is is just right, to the microwave that pings after 30 seconds to tell you the cup of milk is hot, the cooker that turns itself on when you are at work to start cooking that stew ready for when you come home.

Of course a lot of us have central heating, the timer turns the heating on at such time so that when the alarm goes off, the house is nice and warm, we have hot water too and just before we leave the house the timer turns the whole lot off and will turn it all on again just before we are due to come home again.

Central heating though is just that - central - you have one controller that controls the whole house - and the whole house gets heated up twice a day regardless of whether we use each & every room. Yes, we have thermostatic valves on our radiators but do we remember to turn them down as we go to bed and turn them up again when we want more heat, no - we like to have these things controlled for us.

So, here we go, a sales pitch - not just for our infrared heating panels but any form of heating solution that does not have a central boiler - you can use timers/controllers to zone certain parts of your house!

Bedrooms can be turned off earlier in the morning & turned on later in the evening, the kitchen can be heated later in the morning & earlier in the evening and the living room can be left off in the morning and come on a bit later than the kitchen in the evening! So, instead of everywhere being heated at the same time your rooms are heated when you use them thereby keeping your energy costs down.

Controllers can be simple plug in devices to fancy controllers that have an "Early Start Function". Can be used in automatic mode only. The thermostat calculates the optimal time to start heating in order to obtain the desired temperature by the set point time. The thermostat re assesses the start time daily based on previous days results.

How clever is that?

Timing is everything - or is it?

I have seen quite a few info-graphics recently that aim to tell you when the best time to post on facebook, on google+, on twitter etc... to get maximum impact for your efforts.

However, with the world being on the go 24 hours a day, it doesn't matter what time of day you post - someone, somewhere will be looking at facebook, twitter or google+ at the right time of day!

I know, I know, before you have a go at me, if my market is a UK market what good is it if I post when the right time of day to post is in Perth, Australia & not the UK, but to be honest it probably still doesn't matter as I have followers on twitter, likers on facebook, and am in circles on google+ with people all over the world, and whilst they are not my target market, they still want to read what I say. It would be so wrong to ignore them just because of my time zone!

Wouldn't it?

Collaboration!

Collaboration is something that I try & do regularly.

Whether it is to talk to resellers & trade buyers, or whether it is the competition, or my peers about a topic that I need some help in, I am always willing to collaborate!

I wrote this blog over on the North Devon Business Alliance :-

When in business do you ever get the opportunity to collaborate?

What do I mean? Well, whatever it is that you do there must always be a way where you can work with someone else to the benefit of both of you!

18 months or so ago now, I teamed up with 5 other people to swap ideas and give energy to other peoples ideas & be given energy for my ideas. These people do not in any way compete with my own business and bring to the table many skills and points of view that I do not have in my business. We are able to be very frank & honest with each other, able to share bad news with each other as well as good news!

In between our meetings we are able to support one another by liking & sharing on facebook, by RT’ing (retweeting) on Twitter, to G+ one anothers Google posts, to like and re-pin each others pictures on Pinterest amongst other things! With the additional interaction that we give each other we are able to send our message far wider than we could if we were working alone!

Very recently I was invited to join a small group – outside of North Devon – where we again would help promote each others blogs! By spreading the word with, well strangers really, we are able to get into parts of the world where we would otherwise be unable to go – or at least it would be much harder to get there.

Have you thought about teaming up with other people to help spread their word further where in return they will help you spread your word further? It works you know, you just need to find a few people with like minded ideas and strategies, offer to help them in return for help with your own – there is no need to be in the same business or even similar business, you just need to be able to give 10 minutes a day to each other and you have spread your message and theirs far further than if you try and do it all yourself!

Want to know more? Give me a call and I will happily explain further.

I find it rewarding to be part of that team & that reminds me, our next meeting is tomorrow.

Black glass - a modern look!

Feature glass infrared heaters have a highly polished surface, the corners are gently rounded, and the surface is plain and smooth with no lights or switches to spoil the modern clean lines. Our panels do not have a visible frame. The glass surface is very slim with hidden framework bars on the reverse, which hold the panel away from the wall, thus giving the illusion that the heater is floating on the wall. In all it is only 2.5cm deep.

The black glass panels add a contemporary look & feel to a room or modern office environment!

It's Monday - I like Mondays!

Mondays always seem to get the short straw & I am never sure why, they always seem to go past far too quickly & I never seem to get everything done that I need to!

I guess I am lucky, I don't work in the corporate world anymore, I am in charge of my own destiny and I enjoy doing what I do & it each day starts the same way!

Did I mention that I breed llamas, pygmy goats too! We also have chickens, dogs & a cat! They all need looking after before I can even think of getting into the office and starting work, they need looking after 365 days a year (366 in a leap year) & being able to get out into the fresh air, the peace & quiet of the countryside (it can get noisy at times - harvesting & that sort of thing). It blows the cobwebs away after a good nights sleep (not always good, but mainly) and allows my slowly waking up brain to get into gear ready for the work that has piled up into the office!

There always seem to be plenty of activity by customers over the weekend, and so that keeps me busy in the morning - updating facebook, twitter & Google+ all take up time as does writing this blog. Lunch time seems to come & go and the afternoon sees me sorting spreadsheets out & pinging emails all over the place!

The highlight of the day happens around 6pm - I get treated to a visit to the pub - a few beers and it's time for tea/dinner and then the day is over with me twitching to get on and do more!

One of the reasons that Tuesdays is my most productive day as Monday has wound me up ready to get on with more stuff!
