Do you zone your heating system?
I was talking to a potential customer today about how to make your heating system much more efficient. This will work with any heating system, not just our infrared heaters, and the more control you have the more efficient you can make it.
You can create a zone for each room in the house and set the heaters to come on in that room half an hour before it will be used and turn off when it is empty. This is quite a tough thing to anticipate because while we are all creatures of habit we are not that consistant.
However, if I use just a two zone example, you will see my point better.
A central heating system will heat the whole house, the boiler comes on and all of the radiators will warm up, and the house warms up nicely. Of course we can have thermostatic controls on each radiator so that once the room reaches its optimum temperature it turns off the need for heat, but it will heat up none the less.
In a zoned house you can have a zone system for say upstairs and down stairs. The upstairs heating comes on half an hour or so before the downstairs heating and goes off earlier as well. This means that whilst everyone is upstairs there is no wasted heating requirements downstairs. The same happens in reverse in the evening - whilst the family are downstairs in the warm, the upstairs heating is off until half an hour before people go to bed.
You should be able to see that there will be an energy saving for the times the unused zones are not being heated whereas with a central heating system the whole house is heated even if the family are in one zone.
This can be refined further, by making the guest bedroom a zone of their own, or by making the living room a separate zone so that if it is unused in the morning it isn't heated until the evening.

Air is heated up by infrared but not in the way you know it!
The big claim of all infrared heating panel sellers is that the air is not heated up as it is in convection heating systems, because it heats up the bodies and surfaces in the room so you feel the benefit much more quickly than you do with traditional forms of heating!
But, why then do you control the panels with a thermostatic controller, because the thermostat measure the air temperature - the ambient temperature - in the room, so the air must get heated up - right?
Right, but it gets heated up as a bi-product of the system, not as the source of feeling warmth in the room.
Convector heating systems heat the cool air, the warm air rises in the room, as it cools it drops back down to be reheated and so on, the circulation of warm air around the room gives us the feeling that the room is warm, which is all nice and cosy!
Infrared heats the walls, the floor and the objects in the room, which in turn radiate warmth back into the room and therefore the air is heated and ultimately everything in the room is at the same temperature, you, the objects, the floor, the wall, etc... - infrared heating panels are therefore very efficient in that it is not just the air that is heated!
Try opening a door in a nice warm room - in the convector heating scenario the air rushes out, being replaced by cool air and the system goes back into overdrive to heat the air up again so that you feel warm again. The infrared heating system still loses the air but the infrared is still keeping you warm, still keeping the walls, floor etc... warm, and the amount of energy used to reheat the air is less, as the infrastructure of the room retains its heat far better than the disappearing air.

An energy efficient heating solution to help reduce your fuel bills.
Infrared heating panels offer an energy efficient solution to heating your home!
Why? Well firstly infrared heats the objects & people in the room directly rather than heating the air directly! The objects in the room include the floor, the walls, the furniture etc... and as these items absorb the heat given off by the infrared heating panel they start to radiate that warmth back into the room.
Some law of physics state that after a time all things in the room will reach the same temperature, so the air will warm up giving you a nice all round warmth in the room.
Compare this with a traditional convection heating system - the air is warmed up first - warm air rises cooler air falls and is heated up creating a movement of air in the room. It is the warm air that then heats you up!
Yes, both systems heat you up quite nicely but the energy required to produce the same result is very different. You can reduce your energy requirements by as much as a third, if not more, by using infrared heating panels!
