Holidays, holidays!

I took a holiday, a much needed holiday!

It had been booked for several months, almost 10 months.

My nephew was getting married, and he lives in the United States, he had popped over in February to introduce his bride-to-be, and in October they finally tied the knot.

Normally when you go away on holiday it is a chance to recharge the batteries, a time to rest, let the mind and body relax so that when you get back to work, you are raring to go with some added zest, with some new ideas, but on this occasion it was a week long party and I felt I needed a proper holiday to get over it.

We arrived on the Wednesday and was staying with my sister and family, and so the first night was a big catch up, lots of hugs and telling of stories. Plenty of wine involved too! On the Thursday there was a mini-stag do, with the groom staying over along with some friends, both local and from the UK, another late night where plenty of beer was drunk. Friday, we decamped to the hotel where everyone was staying for two nights, and there was a rehearsal dinner to attend, fine food and more wine. On the Saturday we had the wedding and what a wedding, a fantastic time was had. The reception had plenty of food, wine and bless me, they even had a barrel of London Pride for us Brits to drink.

Time to relax on Sunday, oh no! A post-wedding party/BBQ, where friends who didn't come to the wedding also came to say hi to the bride and groom - luckily this was a daytime party, and so our first early night!

We had a day off on Monday, before yet another party to go to on the Tuesday - the brides birthday!

We did fit in a bit of sightseeing after that and arrived home duly shattered, and it has taken me and my liver a week to feel as if we are back to normal.

Many thanks to my sister, my nephew, his bride and her family, my other family members who travelled as well, of course my wife and all those new friends that we met whilst there.

Now, back to work!

Principle of solar radiation!

Our infrared heaters use the principle of solar radiation providing a comforting warmth to every room.

Infrared heating in the ceiling - heat rises doesn't it?

Well does it?

Actually heat doesn't rise - hot air rises, and that is how convection heating systems work?

Cold air is heated up by your radiator, rises to the top of the room, slowly cools down drops down to the radiator level, and is warmed up again, and so rises yet again. It's a never ending cycle. Well, until you turn your heating off.

Radiant heaters, of which infrared heating is one type, do not heat the air up directly, it does as a by-product of the system, but heats up the infrastructure of the room first, the walls, the floors and yes the furniture, these all get warm before the air, you will too if you are in the room. These radiate warmth back into the room and it is this that eventually warms up the air.

When suppliers let you down

Or sometimes when the courier company lets the supplier down.

It happens all the time, but we have a deadline to get some stuff delivered by tomorrow as we have to set up for our first exhibition/show of the year on Sunday.

First problem is with our supplier who we ordered two banners to be printed by, they finally cottoned on that they needed to be paid first despite us checking twice. By the time they agreed we needed to pay they couldn't deliver the banners in time for the show, so we cancelled the order. Luckily for them they hadn't printed the banners but unluckily for us, we now have no banners to display at the show. Grrrr.

Second supplier, is for our gazebo, they shipped it out for delivery to us yesterday, but the courier said we weren't in - we were - and so it has gone back to the depot. No card was left so we didn't know, and just by luck I checked online and it was stuck in the depot awaiting instructions, so hopefully it will be delivered tomorrow. Only just in time, so we are keeping our fingers crossed - we do have a back up for this though as we could get wet otherwise as a showery day is forecast.

We have everything else, so having resolved these problems they are now behind us, we are looking forward to a good show.

Why would you want infrared heating in the home?

Multiheat - where are we?

We are based in beautiful North Devon, we share our office building with a herd of pygmy goats, they get the bigger half of the building, but we get the warmer half.

These are the Welsh twins checking us in on a slightly warmer day than today!

The smallholding that we reside on is also the home for llamas, goats, chickens and dogs, with the occasional lamb and pig! However most of these animals are in fields well away from our office.

It is a quiet place to work except when the rain hammers down onto the tin roof of our office and then it can be a bit deafening. We are about 8 miles west of Bideford just off the Atlantic Highway and whilst we are just a mile or so from the sea we look south over wonderful countryside and on a good day we can see some of the Tors on Dartmoor, over 30 miles away. Today we can hardly see to the bottom of the first field it is so wet & misty.

We have recently smartened our office up and have a wide selection of our products here for the visitor to see, however, we do recommend that you call first as the office is not always manned.

Tidying up the office!

About 5 years ago, I bought some carpet tiles to replace the rugs that covered the floor, but just never seemed to find the time to get them put down. As an internet based company tghe looks in the office were never that important.

However, time changes and with the advent of our new website Bideford Heating and our aim to be a "local" company as well as a the internet based company that we have become, it was time to smarten up our act, carpet tiles are now 85% down, a few edges and a corner to complete is all.

We aim to put up a complete range of our panels so that if - no, not if, when we have visitors wanting to look at what we have we look semi-respectable.

So, that is what I have been doing today!

Oh, I have also responded to emails, blogged, tweeted and updated facebook, and have been keeping one eye on the cricket.

Near, medium and far infrared - what's the difference?

Near, medium and far infrared - what's the difference?

The infrared part of the spectrum lies right next door to the red end of the visible light spectrum and comes just before the "microwaves"!

Infrared can be divided into three categories, near, medium and far!

We know that some infrared heaters glow orange/red and these heaters are generating energy from the "near "infrared part of the spectrum. In terms of measurement this is between 0.75 and 1.4 microns closest to the red visible light. Night vision devices would also use this area of infrared.

Short wavelength infrared is measured between 1.4 and 3.0 microns and is used for long distance telecommunications.

Medium infrared and far infrared do not give off any light at all and can be measured 3.0 microns and above. Heating panels generally fall in the 5.6 to 10.0 micron range.

The more dangerous microwaves are measured at over 1,000 microns and are a long way off the range that infrared heaters use.

Very simply, infrared is part of the light spectrum!

In the 1800's Sir Frederick William Herschel discovered that an area of the light spectrum produced heat. He directed light through a glass prism to create a spectrum  and measured the temperature of each colour. He found that the temperature increased from the violet to the red end of the spectrum.

He continued to measure the temperature beyond the red end of the spectrum in a region where no light was visible and found that this area had the greatest temperature of all. This area has become known as the infrared part of the spectrum.

The warmth given off by the sun and why we feel warm when standing in the sun is because of this infrared energy.

I have been on a social media course today where the call to action at the end was that I had to blog twice a week.

Actually I am supposed to be doing the following:-

• Post 5 times a day on Pinterest
• Tweet 3 times a day (excluding interactions like RT's and replies)
• Post on Google+ 3 times a day (although in the trainers opinion G+ is near dead)
• Update business page on Facebook twice a day
• Upload something to Instagram twice a day
• Update status on LinkedIn twice a day (but just during the working week)
• Write a blog twice a week (I think she meant write two blogs a week on each blog/website that you have).

 What do you think - too much? Not enough?

Multiheat is aiming to be more local!

Multiheat is an internet based company, selling our range of infrared heaters all over the UK. We still do that and our main website www.multiheat-energysystems.co.uk has plenty of information that you can read to find out more how infrared heating works and how it can save you money on your electric heating bills.

We are however based in North Devon, a short way out of the town of Bideford which itself is about 10 miles west of Barnstaple, and we feel it is time that we started to let the people of North Devon know that we are here, so we have set up a new website www.bidefordheating.co.uk and over the coming months hope to promote ourselves more in our own local area.

Set points on thermostats.

Long gone are the days when your central heating system was either on or off.

When they were on they were controlled by a single thermostat that you had to either turn up if you were too cold, or down of you were too hot.

The modern thermostat controllers are now on all the time and you set the temperature at the level you want at a certain time of the day, so for example, when you get up the set point is 21 degrees C, but when you go to work the set point is set at 14 degrees C, when you come home from work the set point may be 18C increasing to 21C when it is time to sit down to watch TV, and when it is bed time it is reduced to 14C.

Most well insulated houses probably do not get below 14 degrees and so the boiler/heating system never comes on, but if it does for some reason then the boiler comes on for a short period to maintain that temperature. This is actually more efficient than having your heating system have to heat the house from a much lower starting point.

Let's say the house does get to 10C, and the system didn't come on until half an hour before you wanted it to get to 21C, it would have to work an awful lot harder and probably wouldn't make it in time whereas if it has been set at 14C, then it doesn't have to work any where near as hard to get up to 21C.

Of course that doesn't mean people stop buying heaters, it just means most people have other things on their mind. The weather forecast this week would tend to point people into going out to buy BBQ's. Unfortunately we don't sell BBQ's, we sell heaters.

Motivation!

Writing blogs needs motivation - there are days when I can write a blog just like that.

I get the idea, find an appropriate picture, think of a few words, sit down and tap it out.

It can take 5 minutes from start to finish - it takes longer to post on the various social media sites to promote it than write it!

But, this all happens when I am motivated, as soon as I lose motivation I seem to lose the energy to even want to open my blog up.

So, we need to be motivated - today I am motivated, so here we are, yesterday and the day before I wasn't, so here we weren't.

Do you struggle to maintain motivation, what tips can you give me to find motivation when it isn't there. All help gratefully received.

Hanging panels - landscape or portrait?

I was asked by a customer earlier this week whether our infrared panels need to be hung landscape, or could they actually be hung portrait.

To be honest most of our sales pictures nearly always show them being hung landscape, but there is no reason why they can't be hung the other way.

As can be seen in the above picture sent in by another customer, they do fit neatly when hung portrait!
