Renewable heat incentives!

The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) is the world’s first long-term financial support programme for renewable heat.

The UK government launched the RHI in November 2011 with a scheme for the non-domestic sector that provides payments to industry, businesses and public sector organisations. They have now set out plans for providing longer term support for homeowners - full details can be found on the government website HERE!

The payment tariff is as follows:-

  • Air source heat pumps - 7.3p/kWh
  • Ground source heat pumps - 18.8p/kWh
  • Biomass boilers - 12.2p/kWh
  • Solar thermal panels - at least 19.2p/kWh
This is good news for home owners who invested in any of the above since 15th July 2009 or are thinking of investing going forward! The scheme will start in spring 2014.

I have had a biomass boiler installed this summer so that is good news for me at least! I'd be interested to know if anyone else is thinking or has had installed any of these systems.
